My Office This Morning

Starting to go through line edits on Odd Job Annie—it’s an interesting process. I knew dialogue tags were gonna be an issue for me—attribute, attribute, attribute is drilled down into my very soul from journalism school.

My editor had a great suggestion: have the character do a short action before speaking—then you don’t need a dialogue tag.

This process is gonna make me a stronger writer, and I kinda love that. What a treat to work with a good editor!
